# 722 / Milagros
Treasured for their red and black coloration, Huayruro seeds are used extensively in tribal ornaments by native Andean jewelry makers. Three of the large seeds are adorned with a silver Chacana ( cruz cuarada or square cross ) which is an important design believed to personify the Southern Cross. This motif depicts the center of the universe. Each step within the cross cuarada represents a realm of the universe: for example the three stepped cross denotes the upper, middle and lower worlds into the Andean cosmology. Milagros are also well known amulets, added to strengthen the supplicants' prayers for protections and support. Interspersed throughout this necklace are 12 images of people, favorite animals and parts of the body, such as the eyes and the heart. Tiny glass spacer beads complete the design. The length inspires your wearing creativity to wrap it around two or three times as desired.

Intricately carved pendant of a diving mermaid caught in a moment among fish and sea-grasses. The smoothly polished flat obverse allows the beautiful grain of boxwood to show to its best advantage. Czech glass watery iridescent spacers continue the idea of the bubbles created by her movement through the ocean.
